What is the difference between web2 and web3?

In this blog post, I will be highlighting the key difference between Web2 and Web3 so calm keep because by the end of the blog post you will already know the main difference between Web2.0 and Web3.0.

What the heck is web3?

If you are relatively new in the tech space you might have heard this word more than enough you are not alone I did a deep dive into what web3 really is and what it stands for you won’t have to think too much when next you hear the word.

Web3 is simply a decentralized online ecosystem based on blockchain.

Easy right? Thats what I thought when I came across the definition on wiki web3 is some sort of decentralization space on it on that one entity don’t have authority over major reason’s why some government don’t buy the idea. Before we look into how web3 differs from web2 let’s know what web2 is all about.

What the heck is web2?

This term has been around for a long time it is the opposite of what web3 stands for which is decentralization.

Web2 is known as a semantic web solely focused on user-generated content, social networks and a lot more, unlike web3, content on this space can be censored by higher authorities

Difference between web2 and web3

Web2.0

  • Single point of failure: malicious actors may be able to take down the network by targeting the central authority.
  • Central authority can censor data, potentially cutting off parts of the network from interacting with the rest of the network.
  • Usually higher performance (higher throughput, fewer total computational resources expended) and easier to implement.

Web3.0

  • No single point of failure: network can still function even if a large proportion of participants are attacked/taken out.
  • Censorship is much harder, as information has many ways to propagate across the network.
  • Usually lower performance (lower throughput, more total computational resources expended) and more complex to implement.
